Mountain Biking in Borgarfjörður eystri
Borgarfjörður eystri is a place where the road ends and adventure begins. Hidden away in Iceland’s remote Eastfjords, this small village is the gateway to the Víknaslóðir wilderness area, a network of ancient trails carved by farmers, sheep, and wild horses over the centuries. No flow trails. No chairlifts. Just raw, natural riding through a landscape that’s as wild as it gets.
This region was abandoned by the middle of the 20th century, free of the trappings of modern society. The mountains rise straight from the sea, and traveling between farms was difficult. Now the effort rewards us with seemingly untouched natural landscapes and sweeping vistas.
With Fjord Bikes, you’ll follow the old ways and ride deep into a land few people reach. Guided by locals who know every climb, creek, and legend written into this rocky landscape, you’ll descend through multicoloured rhyolite hills, between gigantic boulders and down wild trails reclaimed by nature. At the end of it all, you’ll find yourself down by the foaming surf of the ocean asking for more.
When the ride’s done, the adventure doesn’t stop. Watch puffins up close at the marina, soak tired legs in the seaside spa, or hike to Stórurð, a glacier-carved valley of boulders at the foot of Dyrfjöll, our tallest mountain.
We deliver more than a ride. With Fjord Bikes you get a deep dive into Iceland’s wild heart. Stories of heroes and villains, myths and legends bound to the very ground below, all framed in the incredible beauty of Borgarfjörður eystri. It’s not just biking. It’s an adventure at the edge of the world.
